Memorial Weekend 2010

This Memorial Weekend was great. On Friday the girls and I went to the Supermall where Old Navy was having 50% off clearance and 40% off everything else in the store. That, with a $15 off coupon was enough incentive for me to go buy some new clothes.

On Saturday we decided that even though it was raining we would get outside and make some use of the weekend. It calmed down so it just drizzled on and off so we were okay. We went to Northwest Trek. On our way though we made a stop at Sonic and got some food and drinks. Damien and I used to go to Sonic quite frequently when we lived in Pleasant Grove, UT. It was basically across the street so we would have a weekly date night once a week where we went out and got something to drink and usually that was at Sonic. They were still as I remember them. The food isn't great, but the drinks are so it makes it worth it. Here are Damien and the girls enjoying their Sonic.
Then, we headed off to Northwest Trek
We were there for about 3 hours. We took the Tram and saw all of the animals there. It was really quite amazing and I'm glad we went and saw the beauty that was there. I don't remember ever going there before.
On Sunday we went to church, then headed out to meet mom and camping. Since they bought their RV they headed to a RV park in Randall, Wa to check it out. We set up our tent and slept there, but the girls sure did like taking a break in the camp during the day where they could "drive" and lay on the bed in there. We had fun with mom and dad and even though we were only there one night it was worth it to relax a little in the great outdoors.
They had a tree that had carved bears on one side and a fox on the other side. I love this picture of the girls.
Camping was good and really it did not rain much. Sunday night it poured all night, but it was still warm and when we were awake it was never more then a temporary slight drizzle.
On the way home us girls rode in the RV for a little while. Mom and dad only have three seats with seat belts so the girls switched who sat with the seat belt.
And, eventually Katie ended up on Grandma's seat buckled in with her.
We stopped on our way home in Elbe, where we always stop to get burgers at Damien's favorite Burger stand there- Scaleburgers.
We got some burgers and shakes and then us girls joined daddy again for the rest of the ride home.
It was a good weekend. On the way home in the RV we talked about Memorial Day and why we celebrate it. Katie understood quite a bit. Mom shared that when she was growing up her entire family met together for lunch and then went to the cemetery to put flowers on the graves of those family members that served their country. She also said that to this day every Memorial Day she has dad take her to the cemetery so she can walk around and visit those who served and pay respect to them, even though they are not her immediate family members. I never knew that, but I think it would be a great tradition to start. Thanks for sharing that with us mom!
