Vancouver 2010

Tomorrow the Vancouver Olympics come to a close. We have been enjoying watching the sports and playing our Wii Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games Game. We had a small Opening Ceremony Party 14 days ago when the Olympics started and decided that since we had the time and passports to do so we would drive up to Vancouver and partake in some Winter Olympic fun.
We thought that since it was the last weekend of the Olympics the Border would be extremely busy. Really, it was only a 20 minute wait - not bad.
Katie with her drawing. She drew our family going to Canada.
Aubrey was not quite as happy to be going to Canada. This makes a total of four countries that the girls have been to this year. Well, including the one we live in.
Upon entering Canada there were a US Flag and Canada Flag next to each other.
And, a really neat blue lit Olympic Symbol.
The girls were pretty hungry when we got there (as were the parents) so we went to Taco Bell and they had a fountain outside the food court. We would have taken their picture right next to the fountain, but didn't feel like reliving Paris and taking the stroller down all of those stairs.
After food our next stop was the Olympic Flame!
They had a slit in the fence so you could stick your camera in and get an unobstructed picture. They also had a queue where you could wait to walk up to a viewing area to get your picture taken as well, but with a lot to do we just settled with getting our pictures in front of the fence.
The flame was on the walkway to the water and there was a beautiful view of the water and another blue Olympic Symbol there as well. I wish we would have brought our other lens to get a closer picture! The mountain in the background is really pretty, but the building on the side isn't as much.
Then, we went to the BC Pavilion.
They had an ice skating rink. We just missed the ice show and they were preparing the ice for the next open skate. It was free to skate, but they had 15 minutes to clean the ice and the line was already pretty long - plus, they didn't have Aubrey sized skates and it was debatable if they had Katie sized skates so we passed.
Next stop - the bobsled!
This was the Vancouver 2010 sign outside of BC place.
The back of BC Place.
And, the front of BC Place.
By this time Aubrey was pretty tired.
There were a lot of people waiting in line to go to the free events. This was a line of people waiting to go to a few history tents inside. It was a two hour long wait. A lot of the places we went to were like this. Huge lines for little events. However, they usually had something going on outside. Here were two men on stilts playing hockey. They were a little excited (and cocky) about the championship hockey game the next day.
Katie didn't mind though. She had fun running around the people and finding pictures to stand on.
All in all, it was fun. A long drive, long lines, and a lot of walking, but I'm glad we went. The girl's enjoyed it and now we can say we have been TO the Olympics. Maybe next time we'll invest in some tickets!
